Honesty :
We all know that “HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY”. Hey friends! When you find anything on the way, What will you do? Yes, of course you will give it to the person to whom it belongs. Isn’t it? Yes. Is this called Honesty? Yes, it is. But not only returning the thing to the person to whom it belongs but is bigger than that. Honesty is not only the good habit but is a birthplace of all good habits.

  • Honest person always speaks truth.
  • Honest person is not avarice.
  • Honest person is away from temptation.
  • Honest person gives the unselfish service to others.

Once there was a boy. One day while the class was going on, the teacher told him to bring 2 chalks from the staff room. The boy went to the staff room and brought 3 chalks. Kept one with him and gave 2 to the teacher.

When the boy returned home he told his mother,” Mom, I used my brain very efficiently.” His mother asked him, “What are you saying? I am not getting it.” The boy told about the morning incident. The mother, listening to this said, “This is wrong. It means you are not an honest person.” Tomorrow when you go to school, give it to the teacher and apologize for what you did. The next day when the boy went to the school he gave the chalk to the teacher and told my mother gave this, as you are a good teacher. The teacher was very happy. This above incident shows the dishonesty of a person. Even after that his mother gave him the chance, he showed dishonesty. He lied because he felt embarrassed returning the chalk. This shows that when we are dishonest we feel the following:

  • Embarrassed.
  • Shy.
  • Lie to others.
  • Hurt elders.
  • Lose other’s trust.

The story continues: The mother thought to teach him the lesson. The next day when the boy returned from the school and was very hungry, he went to the dining table to take the lunch but the lunch was not ready.

He shouts at his mother, “Why the food is not ready?” The mother replied,” Today, I am not honest.” The boy angrily moves to his room. In the evening, when he went to play with his friends, his friends did not play with him. The boy came back home and told, “ Today, my friends are not playing with me properly.” The mother replied,” they are not honest today.” The boy feel ashamed and said,” Sorry Mom, I got my lesson and I will never repeat this again.

” The above story was of very small thing i.e. of a chalk but slowly if you develop the habit, only you will become honest person. Say for example: When your mother goes out for some work and tells you to watch TV for only one hour and do the work. But if you watch TV for more than one hour means you are not an honest person. Remember if you are honest with yourself then you will be an honest person. You must be honest in whatever you do in your day-to-day life.

When you are dishonest with your parents, or any other person remember the almighty God is looking at you. You can cheat your parents or friends but you can’t cheat God. Keep this thought in mind ” Live with men as if God saw you; converse with God as if men heard you.” - Seneca. This will take you to the path of honesty.
