Project brief

Project Vikas aims at creating a 'Role model college' by empowering the rural graduates with essential skills, vision enhancement and quality knowledge, as well as providing them proper career guidance, so as to help them pursue higher education and/or increase their employability scope.

Purpose of taking this project

In India more than 40% of the total graduates are arts (humanities) graduates (BA). Unfortunately not even 10% of these graduates are found to be employable by the industry, due to their low skill set. There is a lack of quality man power. By the year 2020 India will bring in a lot of employment opportunities, but these graduates won't be able to grasp them due to their low skill sets, insufficient computer knowledge and poor command over English language (the global business/communication language);therefore there is a great need to uplift the level of skills in graduates so that they can grasp upcoming opportunities, particularly in the fast-growing service sector.

Looking at this current scenario, Vikas aims at changing the life of the rural BA graduates by grooming them with various skill sets so that they are capable of being gainfully employed in popular sectors like BPOs/KPOs/MNCs and/or fast-growing sectors like banking/retail/insurance etc.

Scope of the project

Vikas will cover rural BA college students.

Project details

Maa Foundation has adopted a rural BA college and equips the students of the college with essential skills to increase their employability. The students of this college improve their English language, Competitive exam preparation and IT training along with other soft-skill training through personality development camps, throughout the 3 years of their graduation course. They are also given knowledge about corporate etiquettes and their vision is enhanced about the growing Indian economy. All this helps in improving their overall personality and self-confidence and provide them with required skill-sets so as to enhance their chances of employability. Quiz competitions, debates etc. are conducted in the college so as to improve the general knowledge of the students. Career guidance facilities are provided so that the students can pursue professional or vocational courses based on their interests and aptitudes. Experts from outside are invited to the college in order to help and guide the students to prepare for various types of competitive exams.

The students are taken on industrial visits so as to give them a glimpse of real life working culture.

Drop-outs of that region are extended training too. IT hardware and software courses at subsidized rates are conducted for them at the college to give them a good chance of employment. Guidance and scholarships are provided to students interested in pursuing vocational courses.
